Mike Pompeo, The U.S. Secretary of State, calls the U.S. “historically generous” in reference to the Migrant Caravan of refugees seeking asylum on October 21st in a press conference held Wednesday.
“The United States is a historically generous nation when it comes to illegal immigration,” said Pompeo. “To those who want to come [to the United States], come here legally.”
Pompeo also goes on to say that the caravan incident poses an “unacceptable security risk” and “there is no proper accounting of [the] individuals.”
President Trump, in an oval office conference held Wednesday, contradicts Pompeo’s statement by admitting that there is “no proof” that the individuals on the caravan were of terrorist threat to the country.
Despite the lack of evidence to reaffirm Pompeo’s statement, the Trump Administration will continue to take action to combat illegal immigration.
“Illegal entry into the United States will not be possible,” Pompeo said. “The President has an obligation to protect American sovereignty and secure our borders.”
In reference to Jamal Khashoggi, Pompeo informed the press that the Administration will be revoking visas, entering visa lookouts, and Global Magnitsky sanctions.
When asked about these new penalties, Pompeo referred back to “the numbers” and went on to say, “this is certainly not the last step that we will take.”
